Title:

The Cross-Cultural User Interface Initiative at Honeywell

Author:

C. Garg & T. Plocher

Abstract:

The usability of products sold in Asia has not been emphasized in the past by either western or indigenous companies. To compound the usability issue, Western companies have paid little attention to language and cultural considerations in products marketed to Asia. Honeywell is no exception to this. However, as more corporations enter the Asian markets, and competition increases, product usability, increasingly will become an important product discriminator. Thoughtful internationalization or localization will lay the foundation for greater product usability.
