Linguistic Differences and Software Tools

Abstract:

These two papers [Putnam; Matthews et al] describe software tools whose raison d’etre derives from linguistic differences and the problems these can cause. The issues relating to the two tools are, however, very different, and provide an instructive example of how the surface appearance of a problem can be very different from the deep structure.
