Title:

A Software Model Approach to Accommodating Cultural Diversity in the Development of Multilingual Applications

Author:

O’Sullivan, P., Wallace, M. & N. Yousuf

Abstract:

This paper examines the challenge of managing cultural diversity in the development of global software applications. First, an attempt is made to understand the significance for developing applications for a world-wide audience. Second, the framework for considering cultural issues in software development is explored along with an assessment of some of the key cultural issues. Third, two pertinent software engineering methodologies are explored after which a summary of peer reviewed research at IBM’s Dublin Software Lab is presented. Finally, we shall discuss the best practices learned at IBM for incorporating cultural diversity into a global software development framework.
