Title:Investigating Culture(s): Local & Global Perspectives
Abstract:We live in a world full of diversity - human languages, music, beliefs, and our flora and fauna. How do our concepts of culture and cross-cultural studies illuminate or obfuscate our understanding of this dazzling world? Today, many people feel this diversity is under threat on a series of fronts due to global economic forces that are seen as imposing a level of standardization and uniformity -- in language, dress, food, products, and entertainment.
