Title:
The Effect of Culture on User-Centred Design Methods and PhasesAuthor:
Elbaz, P. & G.H. Galal-EdeenAbstract:
Usable interfaces focus on understanding users, and their goals, tasks, characteristics, individual differences and environment. These differences between individuals are result partly from the differences between culture and sub-cultures. The goal of this paper is to set the scene for the research into the effect of culture on User-Centred Design (UCD) methods and phases. After applying the proposed framework on Web application projects, one of them was located in Saudi Arabia (KSA) and United Arab of Emirates (UAE). The framework leads to a decrease of user acceptance test (UAT) bugs by 95.25%, a decrease of the development costs by 30-60%, a decrease of the development time by 20-30%, and an increase of the customer confidence and satisfaction.Original publication:
