Internationally market products can become confusing, offensive, or even dangerous for users if designers are not familiar with the target cultures for these products. Cross-cultural design failure has been well documented, and some cases are directly attributed to inappropriate color choices. Design research has done little to assist the design practitioner in this area., and design tools are virtually non-existent in this area. The research effort developed an interactive multimedia software called “ColorTool: The Cross-Cultural Meanings of Color,” which designers can use to inquire, specify, and evaluate color choices during different phases of the product development process.Original publication:
