Beyond Hofstede: Designing Visual Meanings of Icons and Images for Cross-Cultural Interpretation

Abstract:

This poster extends previous research, which employed ethnographic analysis in examining interpretations of icons and images from US academic websites in relation to Hofstede’s (2001) cultural model. Additional research investigating the socio-cultural contexts, which assisted in the analysis of interpretations by participants from the US, Morocco, Sri Lanka, Turkey and Spain, is presented.
